71 Statewide and Institutional Requirements Jefferson College, as a member of the Missouri Community College Association (MCCA), follows the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) statewide guidelines for public postsecondary institutions establishing college readiness standards for students entering community colleges. In addition to the statewide guidelines, Jefferson College has institutional requirements for fundamental skills or experiences that indicate readiness for college. These skills and experiences are necessary for attainment of knowledge as well as acquisition of skills, characteristics, and practices of educated persons in higher education. Basic competencies in these skills should be demonstrated early in one’s academic career. The statewide and institutional requirements include the following fundamental skills or experiences: Academic Preparedness - Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Proficiency: Evidencing
