ENG121 — Introduction to Literature (H)

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of literature through an examination of poetry, fiction, and drama. The course will focus on literary elements and how those elements create meaning in specific genres. Further , students will examine how literature reflects and illuminates the human experience through close reading and analysis of texts within their historical and cultural contexts. This course is designated as Writing Intensive. Writing Intensive courses meet at least three of the four following criteria: 40% of overall course grade is based on formalized writing assignments, writing instruction is part of the course, drafts of writing assignments are required, and feedback is given on formal elements of writing.

Prerequisites: ENG101, ENG102, ENG108, ENG109
