The OTA Senior Seminar is a capstone course designed to help students integrate and apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. Taken alongside Level II Fieldwork, this course bridges academic learning with real-world clinical practice, preparing students for professional entry into the field. The course focuses on essential competencies for new OTA practitioners, including evidence-based practice, professional reasoning, advocacy, effective communication, and quality improvement. Students will refine their ability to engage in client-centered, occupation-based interventions and collaborate with clients, care partners, and interprofessional teams. Key areas of study include: Evaluation and assessment of occupational performance, development and implementation of client-centered intervention plans, use of therapeutic self in practice, referral/discharge planning/transition strategies, quality management, and business models in OT practice. Students will demonstrate their skills through journaling, case studies, discussions, and interactive projects that reinforce professional identity and preparedness for OTA practice. Additionally, they will explore career advancement resources and learn to articulate the distinct value of occupational therapy in promoting participation, health, and well-being.
