SOC 200 — Minority Group Relations
Examines majority-minority group relations from a sociological perspective with a focus on race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, social class, disability, and other social categories. Addresses the historical, cultural, social, economic, and institutional development of these marginalized populations primarily within U.S. society. Concepts explored include privilege, oppression, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, exploitation, and other elements of social inequality. Teaches how to apply basic concepts central to intergroup relations, explore their implications in society, recognize individual standpoints in relation to those investigated, and integrate this knowledge into daily life.
