This course is an overview of community organizing theories and practices with an emphasis on identifying the individual as an agent of change. Students will learn about the role of activism, advocacy, and coalition building as methods for achieving social justice. Historical and current examples of social movements are analyzed to understand the components of successful social change efforts. Students will explore the resources and issues in their community and create an action plan for change.
