HUP 215 — Philosophy of Love

3 credits · 3 hours

This course will examine the difference between competing definitions of love as eros, philia and agape with the aid of classical and contemporary philosophical texts, love letters, poetry, psychology, and film. Exercising critical thinking to explore the nature, aim, and activity of love opens an avenue for understanding the self and others whileproviding diverse perspectives on why the object(s) of love can shape identity as much as the way in which one loves.
