SSH 113 — Modern Chinese History
This course examines Chinese history from the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1644) to the present. Students will become familiar with modern Chinese history, learning in the process the context of current news and views on China. We will consider the effects of Western and Japanese imperialism, including key events that led to China becoming the world's largest communist nation. Thereemergence of China on the global economic stage after over a century of economic and humanitarian disasters will be examined.CUNY Pathways: Flexible Core-World Cultures & Global Issues
