SSH 232 — Lat-Am & Carib Hist
This course is a general introduction to Latin American and Caribbean history, from the initial encounters of people from Africa and Iberia with the “New World,” through the independence movements of the 19th century, the development of nationstates, and the rise of mass politics in the twentieth century. Through lectures, discussions, and assigned readings, the course examines the social, political, economic, and cultural aspects of Latin America and the Caribbean over five hundred years.
