BAS332 — College Writing Overview
This class will introduce new college students to the expectations of written assignments (essays, research papers, etc.) in the college classroom. Specific topics will include avoiding plagiarism, using MLA and APA format, formal vs. informal writing, quick grammar basics, writing across the disciplines, and using the POWER (prewrite, organize, write, edit/evaluate, rewrite) method. Instruction on MLA and APA will include overviews and examples of the two systems for documenting sources, explanation for why there is a need to document, examples of when a source needs to be documented, documentation of electronic resources, and the availability of tools to aid the writer in MLA and APA styles.
