BAS360 — Foundations of ESL II Writing
This Career Pathways class is for advanced ESL students who want to improve their writing skills for post-secondary education, job training, working on the job, or functioning fully as citizens of the U.S. Students will receive instruction in grammar and writing skills. They will cover verb tenses including simple present, present progressive, simple past, and future. Students will be given practice using imperatives, modals, infinitives, quantity words, as well as comparative/superlative structures. Students will cover punctuation marks: period, comma, quotation marks, apostrophe, etc. Simple, complex and compound sentences will be introduced. Students will get instruction in writing effective paragraphs, simple, three paragraph essays, letters, and resumes. The class will also cover the topic of plagiarism. Journaling is recommended as a tool in this classroom. The main contextual focus of this class is the workplace. All activities should have a workforce focus or application, which is communicated to the student.
