This intensive class is designed for students on a high intermediate reading level whose main goal is to prepare for the GED, improve skills for the workplace, and/or get ready for college/job training programs. Instruction is given in reading, writing, and math skills. The class will touch on all 5 sections of the GED test. In the reading component, critical thinking skills, such as comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis are stressed. The writing component includes sentence, paragraph, and essay structure and application of basic grammar rules. Computation and mathematical applications of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents are taught. Basic geometry and algebra are incorporated into the curriculum. Instruction is contextualized around workplace and academic subjects. Focus is placed on transition into post-secondary education and the workplace.
