BAS436 — Transitions GED Prep
This class combines GED preparation with transition skill development and support. GED preparation instruction includes reading comprehension; science/social studies specific vocabulary and concepts; the 5 paragraph essay, and grammar/style conventions. The math portion of the class will review basic math computation, including fractions, decimals, and percents. Other math topics include measurement, ratio, proportion, probability, mean, mode, range, and using tables, charts, and graphs. Basic geometric concepts will be taught: perimeter, area, volume, Pythagorean theorem, angles, etc. Basic algebra concepts will be introduced, including solving for an unknown and x, y coordinate planes. Transition to work instruction includes searching for jobs, researching careers, career ladders, interview techniques, resume writing, communication skills, and other topics needed. Project based and technology assisted learning are recommended for this class. Transition to Post-secondary education instruction will include researching training/post-secondary opportunities at LCCC and in the Lehigh Valley, applying for financial aid, study skills, and long-term education planning. Students will receive one-on-one support from the Student Success Counselor.
