BAS549 — ESL 1
This class will deliver English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to individuals at NRS levels of Beginning Literacy ESL to Low Intermediate ESL. The class will include life-skill related activities to improve students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and to help give them the survival skills necessary to navigate in an English speaking community. Course content will relate to student goals/needs and should reflect the contexts-workplace, family, school, and community-related to their goals and needs. Topic may include but are not limited to English phonemes, the alphabet, numbers, weather, greetings, family, money, holidays, American culture, and civics. Grammatical objectives include simple sentence construction, plurals, simple present and present progressive tense, verb "to be," subject-verb agreement using regular verbs, pronouns, (including possessive pronouns), negative statements, commands "wh" words, and questions.
