BAS556 — Reduce Your Accent

This course, for advanced ESL level (based on NRS guidelines) or post-advanced non-native English speakers, is designed to help students improve their English pronunciation in order to achieve more success on the job or in the community. Course content will review English phonemes and phonics. The sounds of English will be broken into consonants, consonant blends, consonant digraphs, short vowel, long vowels, vowel digraphs, r-controlled vowels, and complex vowel sounds. The class will also cover phonetic symbols and using pronunciation tools (dictionaries, on-line tools, etc). Students will get instruction and practice in using correct intonation, word stress, sentence stress, and rhythm. This class takes place at Whitehall High School - room C-109.
