0 credits · 19 hours

The Career Pathways class is for students in both Introduction to ESL and Foundations I who want to improve their speaking and listening skills. During the class students will engage in role plays, classroom discussions, dialogues, and presentations. Instructor will employ TPR approach in the classroom to engage students' receptive language skills. Speakers will be invited into the classroom to give students the opportunity to listen to native speakers of English. The class will include note taking skills to prepare students for the college classroom. Pronunciation skills will be addressed to help students speak more clearly. Authentic assignments (calling a store on the phone and asking questions, for example) will be given to the student to practice his/her speaking skills outside of the classroom. The main contextual focuses of this class are the workplace and citizenship. All activities should have a workforce/citizenship focus or application, which is communicated to the student.
