BAS860 — Career Pathways-Manufact-Bridg
This Career Pathways bridge class is for students whose career pathway relates to the field of manufacturing, including logistics and transportation. The purpose of a bridge program is to prepare students for their next step and to ease the transition for them to enter job training or college programs in the manufacturing field. In the classroom, reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills will be presented using the context of manufacturing. Where appropriate, course materials will be adapted from job training textbooks to help students build vocabulary, reading, comprehension, math ability, and study skills. Mathematics instruction will include exposure to trigononmetry functions used in manufacturing programs and on the job. Students will practice reading and writing using technical prose. Students will have the opportunity to use the keytrain system to build their skills in these areas as well. Through partnerships with LCCC and LCTI, students will have opportunities in monthly field trips to visit programs such as Electronics, Drafting and Design, Industrial Automation, Manufacturing Technology, Nanofabrication Technology, Warehousing, Logistics/Transportation Technology, CDL, and Electro-Mechanical Mechatronics Technology. During these field trips students will have the opportunity to complete hands on activities. Specific literacy and soft skills releated to the manufacturing or warehousing workplace will also be covered for students who are currently working in the field or who are seeking a job within the field. Modules will be presented to offer a varied exposure to different programs, occupation fields, and skills required for the field. Students will be responsible for completing projects as part of these modules.
