BAS880 — Career Pathways-Tech Bridge
This Career Pathways bridge class is for students whose career pathway relates to the field of information technology. The purpose of a bridge program is to prepare students for their next step and to ease the transition for them to enter job training or college programs in the information technology field. In the classroom, reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills will be presented using the context of information technology. Where appropriate, course materials will be adapted from job training textbooks to help students build vocabulary, reading comprehension, math ability, and study skills. Students will have the opportunity to use the keytrain system to build their skills in these areas as well. Through partnerships with LCCC and LCTI, students will have opportunities in montly field trips to visit programs such as computer science, graphic design, or computer game and simulator development. During these field trips students will have the opportunity to complete hands on activities. Specific literacy and soft skills related to the information technology workplace will also be covered for students who are currently working in the field or who are seeking a job within the field. Modules will be presented to offer a varied exposure to different programs, occupation fields, and skills required for the field. Students will be responsible for completing projects as part of these modules.
