This Career Pathways bridge class is for students who are Advanced ESL, High Intermediate ABE, and Adult Secondary Education levels, to prepare students to enter job training/college programs or occupations in various fields. Reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills will target multiple industry clusters, including customer service, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics/transportation, hospitality, etc. Course materials can be adapted from job training or college textbooks to help students build vocabulary, reading comprehension, math ability, and study skills. Students will use the Keytrain system to build their skills in these areas as well. Through partnerships with LCCC and LCTI, students will have field trips to visit programs such as dental assistant, public safety, advanced manufacturing, nurse aide, etc., then will complete hands-on activities. Specific literacy and soft skills related to the workplace will also be covered for students who are currently working in the field or are seeking a job within the field. Modules will be presented to offer a varied exposure to different programs, occupation fields, and skills required for the field. Students will be responsible for completing projects as part of these modules. Each module centered around a different industry cluster or transition goal will be approximately 10 hours in duration. Class lengths will vary between 3 and 5 individual modules.
