CAR305 — Headstart and High Scope
Headstart and High ScopeThroughout this workshop students are introduced to the impact of poverty and other risk factors on children's development. Head Start and Early Head Start programs are presented, demonstrating the goals and scope of early intervention efforts designed to ameliorate negative influences of low socioeconomic status in children's and families' lives. Social and legal issues are discussed and students are guided to reflect on their beliefs and potential biases about poverty and social welfare programs. The activities, publications, and impact of High/Scope Educational Research Foundation. Demonstrating principles of best practices and foundations in early intervention, students are introduced to the popular curriculum and assessment tools published by High/Scope. Students are also introduced to the Perry Preschool Study, key elements of quality research demonstrated there, and the major impact this research has had on the field.
