CAR393 — Soc Emo Devel Infant Toddler
Social and Emotional Development in Infants and ToddlersIn this workshop students will discuss Erikson's psychosocial theory which provides an overview of the emotional and social tasks of infancy and toddlerhood. Ethological theory is the most widely accepted view of attachment-the strong emotional tie that develops between infants and caregivers. According to this perspective, attachment is an evolved response that promotes survival. Self-awareness develops over the first and second years, supporting children's emotional and social development. Empathy, the ability to categorize the self, compliance, and self-control are all byproducts of toddlers' emerging sense of self.
