Social and Emotional Development in Early ChildhoodIn this workshop students will explore preschoolers development of self-concept and self-esteem. During the preschool years, peers provide an important context for the development of social skills. Peer interaction increases, cooperative play becomes common, and children form first friendships. Ecological systems theory explains how many interacting variables-at the family, community, and cultural levels-contribute to child maltreatment. Interventions at all of these levels are essential for preventing child abuse and neglect.
