CAR397 — Development Early Childhood

0 credits · 0 hours

Development in Early ChildhoodIn this workshop students will explore physical growth throughout middle childhood. Because of improved health and nutrition, children in industrialized nations are growing larger and reaching physical maturity earlier than their ancestors. During Piaget's concrete operational stage, from about 7 to 11, thought becomes more logical, flexible, and organized than in early childhood. Rough-and-tumble play and the establishment of dominance hierarchies are aspects of children's interaction that reflect our evolutinary past. Physical education classes help ensure that all children have access to the benefits of regular exercise and play. Many experts believe that schools should offer more frequent physical education classes, emphasizing enjoyable, informal games and individual exercise.
