CJUS 321 — Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice

This course will examine critical issues related to crime and justice. The focus of the course will vary from semester to semester, but it will enable students to synthesize their knowledge and skills in analyzing issues including ethics and criminal justice, racial inequality in the criminal justice system, the efficacy of increasing incarceration rates, and societal responses to crime. The course will require students to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the field of criminal justice, critical thinking skills applied to criminal justice, effectiveness in oral and written communication, awareness of ethical issues in criminal justice, and knowledge of data sources in criminal justice and the ability to apply criminal justice related information and research. Criminology (SOCI 203) or departmental approval.
