EDUC 205 — Language and Literacy Learning
This course introduces the basic principles and methods of instruction in reading, writing, listening, and oral communication in elementary school settings. Students examine the Common Core Standards and Massachusetts Curriculum for English Language Arts & Literacy. Phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension are explored. Students reflect on sociocultural aspects of language and literacy development with special emphasis on English language learners. Students complete observation hours in an elementary school setting. approval.
