MEDA 301 — Principles and Methods of Phlebotomy

This course presents the history of phlebotomy giving an overview of blood collection equipment and techniques, preparing the student for a clinical training experience at a hospital or private laboratory. Lecture topics include an introduction to the health care setting, anatomy and physiology of body systems, blood collection supplies and procedures, safety, and quality assurance. A brief introduction to an EKG is given. The laboratory component includes venipuncture and microcollection demonstration and practice. Two lecture and two laboratory hours per week. Phlebotomy Program, meeting all requirements.
