CHE 251 - Organic Chemistry I and Lab CHE 251 - Organic Chemistry I and Lab 4 Course Description: This course studies the chemistry of hydrocarbons and their derivatives. Topics include: nomenclature, conformations, reactions, mechanisms, and physical properties. Other topics investigated are stereochemistry, substitution and elimination reactions and mechanisms. Spectroscopy including infrared, mass spec, nmr and UV-vis will be studied. Laboratory includes classical techniques of separation and identification of organic compounds as well as modern techniques of analysis.
