EDUC245 — Materials for Teaching Literacy

Designed to assist teacher candidates and in-service teachers in selecting, developing, and evaluating materials for teaching reading, writing and related skills. Learners will explore characteristics of effective literacy programming and instruction, use scientifically valid frameworks and evidenced-based criteria to select and organize print and multimedia resources for teaching reading and writing to all children, learn how to use a variety of print and multimedia/ multimodal resources to engage students as readers and writers, and examine how best to provide culturally responsive literacy instruction that promotes all students’ cultural competence through inclusive and equitable literacy learning opportunities. Three hours lecture/discussion each week. 3 semester hours Course
