(HUMD, GEIR, GEEL, GCP) A brief historical survey from Cortes to Castro: Latin America’s triple origin in Iberia, Africa, and Indian civilization; the conquest and three centuries of colonial existence as determinants of nationality and culture; the political break with Europe and the development of independent national life. Emphasis on economic development, agrarian reform, and 20th century movements for political and social change in the major states and upon relations with the United States.
