HIST260 — The United States since 1945

An intensive examination of the American experience since World War II. The course will highlight America’s emergence as a “superpower” and its expanding role in the world; the movements of the 1950s and 1960s to expand the civil rights of women and minorities in our society; the growth of the federal government in the postwar era and critiques of that expansion; and the cultural experience of the United States since World War II, with particular emphasis on the shocks of the 1950s and 1960s.
