HORT170 — Medicinal Plants
Overview of the growth, culture, and science related to the production and use of medicinal plants. Emphasis on plant source, plant description, the active agent and its beneficial or detrimental physiological action and effects. Emphasis on herbal medicine; secondary chemistry of active compounds, oil extraction, and utilization of these plants. Field trips and classroom demonstrations are integrated into the course. One hour lecture, two hours laboratory each week. 2 semester hours Course
