PHED228 — Group Fitness Instructor Training
(R and TP/SS only) Course designed to develop skills and knowledge necessary to provide safe and effective group fitness instruction using a variety of exercise modalities. This course includes knowledge and application of training principles and exercise techniques to develop cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and muscular flexibility. Scientific principles of anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise physiology are studied and applied. Instructional techniques such as effective communication, motivational skills, class design, injury prevention, cueing, and accommodations for special populations are studied and applied. Course assignments include lesson and unit plan preparations and class teaching experiences. Students successfully completing the course will have the opportunity to sit for the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification Exam. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 / ENGL 011 .
