HUM 2403 — SERVICE LEARNING ACROSS BORDERS

Prerequisites: Instructor Approval Service learning engages students in projects that serve the community while building social, civic and academic skills. The Oklahoma Study Abroad Project brings together students from community colleges across the state to travel to an international location and participate in a service- learning project, focusing on education, environmental development and/or income generation. Utilizing an intensive weeklong, field-based model the students will work with the local community on various projects such as f loor installation, creating ecological trails and working with local youth on health issues and building latrines. Each project will enhance their understanding of community service and social responsibility. Upon their return to the U.S., each student will utilize the knowledge and skills learned while studying abroad to create their own service project within their community. Credit: Three semester hours
