Fundamental concepts of animal life. Roles of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids in cells and organisms. Structure and function of cells and the mechanisms of cell division. Chromosomes, genes and heredity. Introduction to cellular respiration and its function. An introduction to taxonomy and characteristics and examples of the major animal phyla. Methods of reproduction in animals with emphasis on mammalian reproduction. Recommended f or students majoring in the pre-health professions and all majors in the biological sciences.
