ENGL 1123 — Critical Thinking and Reading

This course is a comprehensive introduction to critical thinking and reading to help students develop higher-order thinking abilities for academic study, personal growth and development, and career success. Students will learn fundamental thinking, reasoning, and communication skills in a developmental-sequenced approach and practice metacognitive skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. With inter-active engagement in exercises, discussions, topics, readings, and written assignments, students will examine their thinking skills, pay close attention to details, and analyze evidence from different perspectives. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to understand and practice elements of critical and creative thinking by examining the written text, media, and their personal lives.
