BIO255 — Population Genetics

4 Cr. Per Week: 3 Lec. This course introduces the student to the basic topics in genetics culminating in population genetics. An introduction to the basic mechanisms of cell division and chromosomes leads to the molecular characteristics and mechanisms of DNA and RNA in the cell. Mendelian genetics deals with the topics of various types of genetic crosses and the mathematical calculations associated with them. The latter part of course emphasizes how the principles of population genetics can be applied to the successful management of captive animal populations. Restricted to Animal Management or Biology students or with permission of the instructor.
