ECE250 — Birth to Age 6

4 Cr. Per Week: 4 Lec. This course introduces students to the profession of Early Childhood Education (ECE) in alignment with the Child Development Associate (CDA) Competency Standards, with a focus on infants, toddlers, and young children ages birth-6. Through an examination of the historical foundations of early childhood theories, models, and approaches, students explore child growth and development, developmentally appropriate practice, and program requirements across the early years. Emphasis is placed on supporting children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development through the creation of safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate learning environments. Students plan and implement age-appropriate learning experiences, and utilize observation and documentation to assess and support individual children’s development.
