EDU211 — Introduction to Literacy Instruction
3 Cr. Per Week: 3 Lec. This course acquaints students interested in elementary education with modern literacy theories and practices, encompassing diverse perspectives and meeting the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. Students actively participate in school-based activities, including mandatory fieldwork of at least 20 hours in public or private school classrooms from Grades 1 to 6, under the supervision of New York State certified teachers. This fieldwork includes opportunities to observe and assist in literacy and phonics lessons, enhancing their understanding and application of effective teaching strategies.
