HIS266 — China in the Modern World

3 Cr. Per Week: 3 Lec. This course is a political, economic, cultural, and social examination of China’s interaction with the modern world, starting with the West’s uninvited use of economic imperialism and the destruction of the Dynastic system, through China’s struggles to find a response to the West, to its reemergence as a regional power. The course will conclude by questioning whether China will become a superpower to rival the United States.
