HRT100 — Introduction to Horticulture
3 Cr. Per Week: 3 Lec. This is a broad, fast-paced introduction to the basics of horticulture. Topics include professions in horticulture and industry overview; soils and fertility; plant propagation; insect, disease, and weed identification; integrated pest management; techniques of installing and maintaining trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials; and the greenhouse and nursery production of plant materials. Students will also be introduced to numerous specialties within the horticulture field including landscape design, floral design and turf management.
