2 Cr. Per Week: 1 Lec., 2 Lab The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the basics of conducting proficiency, terminology, and score study. Conducting technique, posture, preparatory gestures, the ictus, eye contact, meters, releases, fermatas, styles, dynamics, hand autonomy, cues, entrances, baton technique, repertoire, and rehearsal procedure will be explored. Students will have opportunity to conduct in class, rehearsal, and/or performance venues as well as to attend local performances.
