PHI153 — Ethics: Morality, Law and Politics

3 Cr. Per Week: 3 Lec. This course will raise the issue of the nature of ethics, morality and purposeful existence in relation to the nature of happiness and self-satisfaction. We will read about and examine several of the great thinkers from Plato to Nietzsche. The questions of social responsibility and moral obligation will be raised. The issues of legal and social force, emotion and reason will be raised as they relate to moral problems. We will cover topics such as the nature of desire, duty, pleasure, pain, self-respect, self-esteem, personal interests, holiness, sinfulness, conscience and happiness.
