ALH 115 — Introduction to the Healthcare Professions
Introduces students to the various roles of the healthcare provider andtheir professions. In addition to providing an overview of healthcarecareer choices, this class will present topics that will assist all studentsin being successful. It introduces common topics encountered byhealthcare professionals including medical legal issues, medicalasepsis, communication, knowledge of healthcare across the lifespanand professional behavior. ALH 124 Health & Safety Compliance for Healthcare Professions 1 credit / 1 class hr In the past several years, regulatory agencies have significantlyincreased the life and environmental safety requirements forhealthcare agencies. Emphasis on the increases in healthcare providerinjuries, the spread of communicable diseases, and the protection ofpatient health information have resulted in the need for extensiveorientation programs for staff and students employed or completingclinical experiences in these settings. This course is designed to meetthese regulatory requirements. ALH 220 Medical Terminology 3 credits / 3 class hrs This study introduces students to essential medical terminologyanalysis through knowledge of prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Thestudy also includes vocabulary that cannot be analyzed, verbalpronunciation, medical abbreviations, spelling and medical vignettes.
