Topics may include: the confrontation between the Ottoman Empire and European imperialism in the 19th century; the rise of Arab nationalism in the 20th century; the formation of Turkey, new Arab nations and Israel before and after World War II; the Cold War; the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict; the Iranian Revolution of 1979 and the resurgence of Islam; the Arab Spring of 2011-2012. Fulfills open, liberal arts, social science and history electives.
