ASLN 165 — Translating from English to ASL

This course will examine translation techniques in order for students to engage in message analysis, discourse mapping, intralingual and interlingual strategies. Students will learn strategies in order to comprehend the register of the speaker, speaker's goals, which components of prosody are used, and paraphrasing techniques. Students will explore strategies that will allow them to present accurate translations from the source language, English, into the target language using grammatically correct and cogent American Sign Language (ASL). (Summer Only) Code 3 course fee.
