PTA 1224 - Orthopedic Conditions and Interventions PTA 1224 - Orthopedic Conditions and Interventions 4 Credit Hours Course Description: This foundational course provides Physical Therapist Assistant students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in therapeutic exercise prescription, implementation, and progression for orthopedic conditions. Students will develop expertise in exercise physiology, motor learning principles, and functional movement analysis while gaining hands-on experience in designing and implementing exercise programs for various patient populations. The course emphasizes evidence-informed exercise selection, patient education, safety considerations, and professional communication within the scope of PTA practice. Through integrated classroom instruction and extensive laboratory experiences, students will master the principles and applications of therapeutic exercise across various orthopedic patient conditions and treatment settings. Students will use data collection to support the use of skilled interventions to achieve patient and therapy goals. The course covers range of motion techniques, stretching interventions, strengthening protocols, cardiovascular conditioning, postural correction, and functional training strategies. Students will learn to safely implement exercise programs prescribed by physical therapists, provide appropriate patient instruction, and modify interventions based on patient response and healing phases.
