COM 105 - Media and Society COM 105 - Media and Society Credits/Units: 3 cr. A survey of the types and functions of various means of mass communication, from traditional media such as newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and film to new media such as the Internet, mobile communication, and social media. Included is an examination of how mass communication technologies interact and influence each other, especially the relationship between traditional and new media formats. Through the study of how mass communication impacts society and individuals, students develop the media literacy skills needed by both informed citizens and media content producers.
