COM 213 - Popular Culture and the Media COM 213 - Popular Culture and the Media Credits/Units: 3 cr. While building on a foundational overview of the evolution of popular culture, this course examines the growth and influence of American popular culture through the latter half of the twentieth century to the present. In addition to examining various historical critiques of popular culture, students will explore the different levels of popular culture, the technological forms that deliver and influence its content, the economic and social underpinnings of popular culture, and the groups and sub-groups that create, borrow, and consume popular culture in the United States. Case studies in television, music, film and print will be offered. Prerequisite: COM 101
