FMT-2100 — Introduction to Investments

This course examines the fundamental principles and practices of investing in financial markets and the tools necessary to make informed investment decisions. Students analyze the different types of financial instruments including equity, debt, and derivatives. Next, students determine the valuation of these instruments, their potential risks and rewards, and the situations in which they are best utilized. Emphasis is placed on calculating the risk-return trade off, the strategies for building a diversified investment portfolio, and the impact of economic and market conditions, including global events on investment performance. Finally, students consider the role of ethics in investment practices. Course
