ARTH 126 — History of Asian Art
This class covers the majestic artistic worlds of India, South East Asia, China, Korea and Japan from the beginning of civilization to the 19th-century. It deals with aesthetic manifestations of the great religious and philosophical systems such as Taoism, Confucianism, Hinduism and Buddhism. The architecture, sculpture, painting, metalwork, textiles and ceramics are analyzed; themes, styles and techniques distinctive of the art tradition of each country are stressed.
