ENGL 211 - Masterpieces of Early World Literature ENGL 211 - Masterpieces of Early World Literature (3,0) 3 Credits General Education Course: Humanities-English Literature, Global and Cultural Awareness This course examines literary works in various genres from the ancient period to the Early Modern period from many of the world’s cultures, such as East Asia, India, Africa, the ancient Near East, classical Greece and Rome, and Europe. The emphasis is on understanding the philosophical and cultural context in which the literary works are embedded. Students encounter and examine world views and values from a variety of cultural and historical perspectives. Among the topics discussed are mythology, religion, and the nature of the hero.
